Getting Antsy

August 31, 2009

After a good many months of respite, our not-so-friendly neighborhood ants are back in force. Drat.

It is a humbling experience having to clear up ant-devoured lizard remains, let me tell you… And for the second time. Oh yes, our ants definitely understand power in numbers.

Anyone have a good solution for ridding the house of ants? They’re driving me crazy!

The only thing I’ve found that works is the powder you see at the top.

The ants carry the stuff back to their nest, and it wipes ’em all out at one go.

It’s really very effective. One round of this and you don’t see anymore ants for months.

The problem is, it’s basically poison. So if you have pets or little children in the house, it’s just not such a good idea. A friend at work suggested using flour. Has anyone else tried this? Does it really work? Because I would definitely prefer to leave something non-toxic scattered about the house if possible.

I totally emphathise with you. I used to use this too, but I’m so paranoid about someone mistaking them for crumbs and puttin them to the mouth – dun ask abt our eating habits, haha – so recently I bot some ant bait stations.

Looks and works like the roach patches, so no sprinkling of crumby things ard the house. The patches attract ants, which carry back particles housed within which which wipe out the nest. Looks neater. Must admit I haven’t activated the bait stations yet tho!

Hello apprenticehousewife! I’ve never seen an ant bait station =) Can you get it from most supermarkets? Is it cheap?
